Coraki Outing – April 2024

G’day All

Well, what a great weekend we had. Six units had already arrived at the Coraki
Riverside Caravan Park and Camping Grounds on Thursday when the SES came
around, and assessed the possible flood situation. Both the Wilsons River and the
Richmond River had a flood watch for possible minor flooding, so because the
campground is just down from the meeting of the rivers, the SES said that it was too
much of a risk to stay, so we all had to pack up and leave.

It was decided to reconvene at the New Italy Rest Area and see what could transpire.
Judy had been phoned as she was on her way and was close to New Italy, so she
went straight there to welcome us. Others on the way were contacted, and decided
that they were far enough away not to continue, so went home. The rest who had
planned on coming Friday just didn’t come. Tony and Belinda popped in but realised
they could go to a birthday party instead, so they headed there.

Four of the vanners decided after Thursday night, with continued showers, to head
off home, leaving Don T and Yvonne, Neil and Shirley, and myself to make the best
of the weekend. We enjoyed the delicious coffee and cakes at the New Italy Café,
checked out the Museum and the Glass Art Gallery, and Neil even scored a (bought)
Bromeliad. The rest of the time was spent huddled out of the constant drizzle under
Don T’s awning, reading, chatting, and watching the antics of a kookaburra and a
couple of kangaroos. Everybody else decided to head home on Saturday, leaving me
the sole person to see the weekend out. I went back to Coraki on Sunday morning,
where it stopped raining as soon as I pulled up, and the sun came out for a bright
and sunny afternoon.

What was…. What should have been

Regards,

Don Brackenreg (Secretary).
