Well, wasn’t it a hot and sweaty time to meet up at the Glenreagh Recreation Ground for our twenty-sixth birthday? We even had a BOM warning of a severe heatwave for most of the weekend.
A total of 16 Units, with 28 people staying at least one night, plus day visitors from Maclean, Col and Rhonda Thompson, called in to see if they would like to join us when they buy their motorhome in the future.
On Friday Tony collected the dues, and then we held a General Meeting when Don T. welcomed new members, Pam Fraser, Judy Parkes, and Graham Young & Ann Scott, along with Brent & Ellie Walsh after having a long break.
With Don T’s birthday only a week before, Marilyn Monroe (aka Anna) presented Don with a birthday cake, and a very special version of “Happy Birthday” with a kiss for the President. This was followed by happy hour, then tea was provided by the chapter. The men took great delight in cooking the onions, sausages, and patties on the BBQ, for us to enjoy on bread with condiments. This was followed by jelly, peaches, and custard.
On Saturday, most of us went to the Markets in town. As it was Judy’s birthday, she was surprised with a birthday cake. Almost everyone got into the Valentine theme, with either bows and arrows, or fancy dress with red hearts and wigs and white attire. June, Anna, and Marjorie had done a lot of work preparing for all sorts of fun and games.
We had overhead water dish relay, which was won by Ken’s team, and pass the parcel, which was won by June and Judy. There was a free booze raffle, which was won by Robbo and Judy. Then the players went on to play know your partner, which resulted in a tie for Anna and Brent.
The Chairman officially awarded an OBE to Ron Steen, and the dry nappy award to Ray. Our oldest member, Don Ferguson ceremoniously cut the birthday cake which had been baked by Yvonne. Then we held the regular raffle, along with another raffle for Anna’s rugs, with all that money going to Westpac Helicopter Rescue.
Everyone went down to The Golden Dog Bistro for dinner and a chance for another chinwag. Fiona called in to see us there, then stayed the night in her motorhome with us.
Sunday morning everyone was up early, some enjoying a BBQ cooked breakfast, then packing up until morning tea, making sure that everything in the Canteen was clean and tidy before heading in different directions.
The next outing is at Broadwater, and the invitation to that outing, with the directions on how to find the campsite has already been emailed to everyone.
Regards, Don B.
