Perhaps it should be called Too Long. It certainly seemed like a very long 20 km of winding road. We thought we would never get there. However, it was well worth the trip when we arrived at the campsite. A fairly level area with plenty of space to park & trees all around awaited us. A big bonus was the huge fire pit where we could all sit around & be warm.
There were 11 vehicles comprising 22 members and our resident fur baby. We were pleased to welcome 2 new members, Jen & Don. We were also extremely pleased to have a visit on Saturday from Don B. after his very long health battles. He is recovering well although still undergoing some outpatient treatment.
Most vehicles had arrived by lunchtime on Thursday so a short walk to the café in town was followed by a beautiful lunch and undoubtedly an afternoon nanny nap.
Friday brought out our competitive side with the bottle of Irish cream won by Ken with his dollar landing right against the bottle. Anna & Ray organised an afternoon game of Finska which was won by Steve who shared his winnings of liqueur chocolates with everyone. Thanks, Steve.
On Saturday, after paying our fees & enjoying some very nice cakes & slices for morning tea we all enjoyed a hotly contested game of Grocery grab. This time it was Terry’s turn to take out the winning prize of another bottle of Irish Cream and most competitors came away with a good selection of pantry items.
Saturday afternoon meant the cards came out again (look closely at the cards they are playing with). The raffle also saw a lot of great prizes donated & many happy winners.
The Ulong RSL was the place to be on Saturday night. I don’t think they are used to being so busy!! The food was lovely, the company was pleasant & the grog was cold. What more could we want? Some members even enjoyed a game of pool.
When we got back to the campsite Terry entertained us all by setting off the alarm in our car. It was so loud I am sure most of Ulong would have heard it! Sunday dawned an hour earlier thanks to daylight saving and we all had to pack up & begin that lovely long journey back down the mountain homeward having enjoyed yet another successful weekend with great companions.
Don’t forget our next outing is at the Greyhound track. Thursday night (31st Oct) is Halloween dress up with a special ghoulish menu for dinner. Hope to see you there!
