Ian and Glenys have a beautiful bushland property out near Harwood. They began an ostrich farm about 30 years ago, but as a niche market, it had its ups and downs. They then went into emus which was very good, supplying Qantas with emu meat for their in-flight menus until the America native bird group decided that it was a travesty to serve farm bred emu meat and had the aviation industry refuse to fuel the planes that landed in America.
Ian will give you the low down on the birds, some interesting facts that you may not know, and about the ups and downs on the ostrich and emu industry in Australia.

The ostrich in the photo was very taken with Tim and was performing the mating dance. Tim was very glad of the fencing between them.
Ian and his wife are also collectors of vintage cars and bikes. They have quite a few Chevrolets, a Mazda, an old Ford, and an Excalibur. The latter used to be built in the Chevrolet factory and were ‘one offs ‘. You made a special order for your vehicle and it was made specifically for you. The bikes include a Harley and an Apache.
In another large shed they have a mixture of penny farthings, (Ian was a World Champion racer in his heyday), an old Army Jeep still used on Anzac Day celebrations, harness gear and some wonderful carriages.
While you look around, Ian will cook up a BBQ lunch for you, plus dessert, all included in the fare. Morning tea will also be provided on the way to the farm.
